i've been having some kind of weird breakout on my face that looked sort of like acne, but didn't..if that makes sense. anyway, in response to my angry skin i pared down my products to just a few paula's choice products. even with the 2% bha lotion my skin wasn't clearing so i decided as a last step, before seeing a derm, i'd try the 5% benzoyl peroxide product.

i know i could have just gone to the store and bought a very basic but useful formula, but i know paula prides herself on adding antioxidants and anti-irritants to her products, and this is no exception! i've been using it for a few days now and my skin is showing a marked change for the better. i'm not completely clear, i gather it will take a couple/three weeks, but there is no doubt this product is working! the anti-irritants paula added really make a difference too.

to sum it up the pluses are this is a highly effective formula if you need this step in a regimen, but gentle as far as benzoyl peroxide formulas can be. very light texture, absorbs rapidly and leaves a matte finish to the skin. NO fragrance or colorings are added!

the caveats are per usual for benzoyl peroxide...try not to get on clothing/towels/pillowcases or you will see discoloration(experience talking..thank goodness i didn't ruin any of my favorites!) and be extremely careful not to use this around the eye, especially the upper eyelid! again, experience talking, somehow, though i thought i was careful, it must have transferred to my upper eyelid, the next day it looked bright red and it had that really tight, dry feeling.

I use this as a spot treatment and blemishes do seem to disappear faster when using it. It doesn't make my skin dry or flaky, but again I only use it as a spot treatment on trouble areas of my face. *UPDATE: winter is here, and the parts of my face that are dry become even drier. Where I use this as a spot treatment there is some flaking and tightness, but nothing that can't be handled. I'm slowly replacing this benzoyl peroxide acne treatment for a salicylic acid one, which has anti-inflammatory action.
