Melasma
Facial skin discoloration mostly seen in women 20-50 years of age is called melasma. Exposure to the sun is the primary cause of melasma. Hormonal changes due to intake of birth control pills and pregnancy are additional reasons to have this patchy brown, bluish-white discoloration of the skin. Hispanics, Asians and Middle Eastern people have a higher incidence of melasma. Treatment regimens mostly include application of hydroquinone creams.
